Ward 11 Greater Sudbury city council John Lindsay said the fact that it turns out the Hilton hotel chain has turned out not to have committed to partnering with the Kingsway Entertainment District is showing.
“As we learned we were not given the whole story with respect to the Hilton involvement, are we not likely to be somewhat skeptical of other claims?” he said in an open letter.
“We all know the old saying about something that seems to be too good to be true.”
Last week, Greater Sudbury city council heard the Hilton chain is interested in building as part of the Kingsway Entertainment District.
But developer Dario Zulich now says no chains have committed to building there during the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal (LPAT) appeal.
The consequences of being “less than truthful” may come into play in the upcoming LPAT hearing, Lindsay said.

No one likes to be lied to and that is what seems to be taking place with a lot of the hype surrounding the Kingsway Entertainment District.
The recent expensive two page colour ads in local papers contain if not outright untruths information that is not entirely honest.
Both the city and the developer mislead the public with respect to the involvement of Hilton Hotels who said reports from both parties were “factually incorrect”, and therefore any cost sharing development arrangements as indicated are simply not true.
Now we have Mr. Zulich saying there are many businesses interested in the location, including a number of hotels, restaurants, even a gas station and grocery outlet.
As we learned we were not given the whole story with respect to the Hilton involvement, are we not likely to be somewhat skeptical of other claims? We all know the old saying about something that seems to be too good to be true.
The consequences of being less than truthful may be revealed in the upcoming LPAT hearings when if successful the city will be required to address some very important concerns with not only respect to process but environmental issues concerning salt runoff from the large parking area into Lake Ramsey and traffic congestion in the area.
To read my submissions (appeal and synopsis) with respect to these matters I have provided links on my website and also the respondents (city) response which can be accessed through my website www.johnlindsay.ca.
I believe in transparency and honesty as being the best policy and am sure most citizens think the same and expect nothing less from our elected representatives and employees.
