Ward 11 candidate Bill Leduc has made it known where he stands on the hotly contested issue of the Kingsway Entertainment District.

In a news release issued Sept. 6, Leduc called the development of an entertainment district in his ward an "exciting opportunity".

"The Kingsway Casino Event District is scheduled to be located adjacent to Levesque Street, just off the main Trans-Canada Highway. What an incredible welcome to the visitors who come to our beautiful city of Sudbury," said Leduc.

Full text of Leduc's news release can be found below:

I just want to reintroduce myself to all my constituents in Ward 11. I'm Bill Leduc.

I can't express enough how exciting this opportunity is to have an innovative landmark in our own backyard in Ward 11.

The Kingsway Casino Event District is scheduled to be located adjacent to Levesque Street, just off the main Trans-Canada Highway. What an incredible welcome to the visitors who come to our beautiful city of Sudbury.

Being immersed with family myself, being a member of our aging population with grandchildren on the opposite end of the spectrum, the Kingsway Casino and Event Centre allows us, as a community, to participate in recreational activities as a family; there will be something there for everyone to enjoy.

It's estimated by Gateway Casinos that the development of the Kingsway project can create 250 + employment positions, on top of the already 160 positions at its present location. This tally does not include the employment opportunities created during the initial development of the Kingsway Casino Event Centre.

When we think in terms of the revenue and long term economic growth the Kingsway Casino Event Centre is estimated to generate, that amounts to something in excess of 80 million dollars annually.

What this means for our city is revenue that can be reinvested into our community, with some focus on our aging population. We will be able to tackle the current crisis facing Sudbury with respect to affordable housing, long term care facilities - all while minimizing the tax burden on citizens.

We can sustain long term economic growth.

With all the hype surrounding the Kingsway development project, we can no forget about revitalizing our beautiful downtown core. Revenue from the new developments can also be used to support our downtown.

I fully support the development of the Kingsway Casino Event Centre, as I am a strong supporter of economic growth, job creation, infrastructure development, affordable housing and an enhanced sense of community.
