Where do you vote in Ward 11? That’s what Ward 11 candidate — and former Ward 11 councillor — Terry Kett wants to know.

Kett previously served as councillor in the Minnow Lake-area ward from 2010 to 2014, and from 2003-2006 served as a Greater Sudbury city councillor for the Walden area (then Ward 1). He was also mayor of the former Town of Walden from 1991-1997.

“If you intend to vote and do not have internet access or don’t feel comfortable using a computer, you wouldn’t be pleased to know that the city has not posted online or advertised where you can physically vote in the upcoming municipal election in any ward, not just Ward 11, yet the election is only 60 days away,” Kett said in a release to media.

He said the city’s Election 2018 website is up and active and has a wealth of information about online voting, but nothing about actually polling stations.

“Yet nearly one quarter of our residents are seniors, many of whom either are not comfortable with a computer/tablet or using the internet, or simply prefer the traditional way of casting their vote in person,” Kett said.

“Campaigning door-to-door for the past two weeks has also shown me that many younger voters also like the feeling of casting their vote in person.”

He said the city should have staff add the polling station information onto the website, and soon.

“Many citizens want to cast their vote in person - that is their democratic right!” Kett said.
