COVID-19 case numbers are dropping in Sudbury

Weekly COVID numbers are down, hospital cases are down and no deaths have been reported in the past 10 days

Public Health Sudbury and Districts (PHSD) has reported only 43 new COVID-19 cases have occurred in the local health jurisdiction since Wednesday.  This brings the weekly total of new cases to 136, which is a drop from the 143 cases reported at the end of last week (Nov.18).

No new deaths have been reported in the past week, according to Friday's daily summary that was published by the health unit.

There were three deaths reported on November 16. This means there are 195 COVID-related deaths that have occurred in the Sudbury health area since the pandemic began in March of 2020. Also, it means there have been 10 deaths since the beginning of November.

In terms of COVID cases, there is a cumulative total of 20,743 cases in the past two years and eight months. The health unit also reported that 20,602 of those cases have been resolved over that same period of time.  The majority of local cases -- 6,787 -- have occurred in the 20 to 39 year age group.

There continue to be several COVID-19 outbreaks in the Sudbury health jurisdiction, in long-term care homes, retirement homes and other congregate settings.  PHSD reported 12 recent outbreaks and said only eight are still active.

At Health Sciences North on Friday there were 17 confirmed cases of COVID being treated with zero patients assigned to the Intensive Care Unit.  This is down slightly from the 22 cases reported Wednesday.

The hospital also reported that as of Friday, there was only one outbreak at HSN, which was on Level 4 of the North tower, RLHC (declared October 7, 2022).

The hospital also reminds the public that units where there is an active COVID outbreak, no Designated Care Partners/Visitors allowed. An exception may be considered for compassionate reasons or end-of-life.

Also, as of November 25, 2022 the COVID Risk Index for Sudbury was still in the Moderate category.
