COVID outbreak declared at Lockerby; several new cases at other area schools

Public Health Sudbury may have cancelled in-person learning at local schools until further notice, but there is still a COVID-19 outbreak and several more cases to report in Sudbury schools today.

There are now 39 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in area schools, and six active outbreaks.

In a letter dated March 14, the Rainbow District School Board said a third person from Lockerby Composite School had tested positive for COVID-19, and as a result, an outbreak had been declared.

Public Health has indicated that there is no evidence of widespread transmission at the school at this time, said the school board.

Five cohorts are required to self-isolate. There is also an impact on school bus transportation. See below:

  • The isolation period for the Grade 9 science class SNC1DL-05 and the Grade 9 French class FIF1DI-02 has been extended to March 19.
  • Students in Junior Band AMI10B-01 are required to self-isolate until March 22.
  • Students in Grade 9 Canadian Geography CGC1DI-01 and Grade 9 Physical Education PPL1OI-02 are required to self-isolate until March 24.
  • Students on the morning secondary run of bus route L032 and/or the afternoon secondary run of bus route L111 are required to self-isolate until March 24.

New COVID-19 cases have also been identified at:

  • MacLeod Public School - One confirmed case. The Grade 8 class in Room 321 has been asked to self-isolate until March 24.
  • St. Francis Catholic Elementary School - An additional case of COVID-19 has been reported (there are now two cases at the school). The Learning Support Centre A Room 247 is dismissed.
  • École secondaire Macdonald-Cartier - An additional case of COVID-19 has been reported at the school. Grade 7 Group 702 and Grade 7 Group 701 are required to self-isolate until March 24. Three cases in total are reported at the school.

COVID-19 outbreaks have also now been declared resolved at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School, Algonquin Public School and Jean Hanson Public School.
