The Greater Sudbury Cubs are going to be tired come Monday after playing three games in four days this weekend.

The run kicks off Thursday against the Espanola Paper Kings, with the puck dropping at 7:05 p.m. at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Arena.

Then, on Friday, Greater Sudbury welcomes the Soo Eagles to Countryside for a 7:05 p.m. tilt. The Cubs close out the weekend on Sunday afternoon with a road trip to Noelville to take on the French River Rapids at 4 p.m.

“Friday’s game will feature the Cubs’ acknowledgement of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation,” the team said in a news release.

All local First Nation residents are encouraged to attend Friday’s game and join Councillor Richard Shawanda of Whitefish River First Nation in observing a moment of silence before the game.

In other Cubs news, the team will compete in the 2024 NOJHL Showcase next week. The event is being held Oct. 1-2 at Countryside Arena.

“On Tuesday, the Cubs will play the Hearst Lumberjacks for the third time this season. On Wednesday, the  Cubs will face Powassan Voodoos for the first time since the Cubs eliminated the Voodoos in the NOJHL Championship Final in April,” the team said.

Those games both have a 6:45 p.m. start time.

In the early goings of this season, veteran forward Cameron Shanks and rookie forward Mason Walker are leading the team in points. Both players have recorded five points, including one goal and four assists apiece.
