Landing their ninth straight win, the Greater Sudbury Cubs beat the Powassan Voodoos 4-1 in what a Northern Hockey Junior Hockey League media release calls a “hard-fought affair.”

The game took place at the Powassan Sportsplex.

The Cubs picked up an early power play, which allowed defenceman Kyloe Ellis to more from the left point and fire a shot past the blocker of Voodoos’ starter Daniel Dirracolo to score a goal 1:38 into the game.

Although Voodoos’ player Ryan Patrick answered this goal with one for the home team 2:15 into the second period, Cubs Cameron Shanks and Pierson Sobush closed the period with two more for Greater Sudbury.

Near the close of the third period, Cubs player Oliver Smith capped things off with the team’s fourth goal.

With Friday’s win, the Cubs’ record is now 25-4-2-0. The Voodoos’ record is now 19-8-1-0 on the season.

The Cubs’ home record is slightly better than their away record, with a rank of 13-1-2-0 against 11-3-0-0. They are currently top in the league

The Greater Sudbury team’s next game is against the Espanola Paper Kings on Dec. 15, at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
