The Sudbury Green Party announced yesterday David Robinson will return as the local candidate for the upcoming election.

Robinson, who has represented the party locally in several elections, has been campaigning for effective climate action for more than 10 years now, and is adamant about making a change this year, said a press release issued by the candidate.

“We have strong policies across the board,” said Robinson, in the press release. ”But for us, climate action is front and centre, top of the list. And we know how to move fast.”

Robinson taught economics at Laurentian University for 33 years, and specializes in the Northern Ontario Economy and economics of the environment.

He is the 2019 winner for the Northern Ontario Business award for economic development and was the first to streamline Sudbury’s Mining Supply and Services Sector, the press release said.

He and his daughter Kirsten Robinson helped establish the early proponent for the northern Ontario school of architecture in the downtown region - a community project that raised tens of millions.

Robinson will be running up against a few others for the Sudbury riding this fall — Viviane Lapointe is running for the Liberals, Nadia Verrelli for the NDP, Dr. Ian Symington for the Conservatives and Colette Methé for the People’s Party of Canada.

In the Nickel Belt region, the Green Party has nominated Craig Gravelle as their local candidate. Liberal incumbent Marc Serré is seeking re-election. The Conservatives nominated Charles Humphrey, and the New Democrats have Andréane Chénier as their candidate. David Hobbs is the People’s Party of Canada candidate in Nickel Belt.
