Earthquakes Canada confirmed that an earthquake registering a 2.1 magnitude shook parts of Greater Sudbury on Monday evening.

The quake originated just northeast of the Minnow Lake area at 5:20 p.m. at the coordinates of 46.5, -80.92, which is a short distance from Mid North's Play Powersports & Marine off the Kingsway.

"It was pretty small, all things considered," said Stephen Crane, seismologist with Natural Resources Canada. "There was probably a bit of a rumble but we would not suspect any damage from this."

Crane suspects that the cause of the quake was industrial in nature, likely due to blasting in the area.

"Given the location and how shallow the origin was, it's most likly that this was industrial-related," said Crane. "The quake originated less than a kilometer underground."
