Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival announced recently that Dario Zulich and the Sudbury Wolves Group will be the presenting sponsors at the Nov. 2-4 festival.

A press release from the festival described the sponsorship as “generous.”

Zulich, who has purchased the Sudbury Wolves and the Sudbury Spartans within the past year, among other sports properties, is also a strong supporter of the arts with a particular interest in youth and literacy, a press release said.

The Sudbury Wolves are active partners in the community working with school-age children on literacy, and reinforcing with Sudbury Wolves players visiting local schools with the valuable lesson about the importance of reading and writing.

“The support from Dario Zulich and the Sudbury Wolves Group demonstrates the collaboration that can be created between our local sports groups and the arts,” said organizer Heather Campbell.

“We look forward to working together to bring inspiring Canlit to the community.”

Wordstock Sudbury Literary Festival, now an annual three-day event that celebrates reading and writing, has welcomed award-winning Canadian authors to mingle and share their stories with local authors and readers of all ages.

It also includes the #YouthWords Writing Contest that recognizes young emerging writers.

Zulich said he welcomes this opportunity to enrich a unique cultural experience in Northern Ontario, to engage readers in a vibrant literary experience and to encourage reading with a wider, more diverse audience.

“For many years it seems to have been the case of sports vs. arts,” Zulich said.

“It doesn’t need to be that way. In fact, I really believe it should be sports and the arts.

“As owner of the Sudbury Wolves, I am deeply committed to encouraging literacy in the players and ensuring their position as role models can help encourage kids to be passionate about reading and writing.

“As a developer I want to see Greater Sudbury attract sport and entertainment tourism by serving a wide range of interests, and encouraging visitors to stay here longer. Sponsoring Wordstock Sudbury and the arts is part of this broader vision.”
