United Way Centraide North East Ontario/Nord-est de l’Ontario (UWCNEO), in partnership with the Sudbury & District Labour Council, is hosting the eighth annual Tampon Tuesday initiative, taking place throughout the community until March 8.

A release from UWCNEO states that one in four Canadians must choose between buying food or period products each month.

“Although menstrual hygiene products are a necessity, many people in our community cannot afford to purchase them. This is where Tampon Tuesday helps,” continues the release.

Those who wish to participate can start by launching a workplace collection drive or donating products at one of the participating drop off locations (you can find a list at  UWCNEO.com. You can also make a financial donation here, or attend the UNCNEO event at The Daventry Kitchen and Bar on March 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Donations collected from Tampon Tuesday will be distributed locally to organizations supporting vulnerable clients in the community.
“Tampon Tuesday serves as a catalyst for change, addressing the multifaceted issues surrounding period poverty," said Mary Lou Hussak, executive director with UWCNEO, in the release. "The initiative not only collects and distributes menstrual hygiene products, but also strives to break the silence and challenge the societal stigma associated with menstrual health.”
