A special Advent collection program has been organized by Church of the Epiphany, St. Andrew’s United Church, Church of Christ the King, and All Nations Church in downtown Sudbury.
The program runs throughout the month of December and will be accepting donations of non-perishable food, toiletries, and clothing items for distribution to those in need.
“This work ties in with our ongoing awareness building around the Downtown core," said Reverend Catherine Somerville in a news release. "We see it as another example of good partnerships, and how we can work together to bring about hope-filled change in our neighbourhood.”
A similar initiative held last year saw roughly 2,400 pairs of mittens, hats and scarves donated to area schools and other organizations.
Lynn McMurray - activist in social housing communities, and supporter of such community initiatives said, “Many people (in social housing) are struggling to raise families, upgrade their education, start on a new career path, and are greatly encouraged when a financial burden is lifted due to the generosity of others.”
