Dr. Kochar's funeral takes place April 13

The funeral for 51-year-old Dr. Harinder Kochar will take place from 12-1:30 p.m. April 13 in the chapel at the Comstock Funeral Home and Cremation Centre in Peterborough, Ont.

His body will then be taken to the Lakefield Crematorium for cremation after the Sikh prayer service.

He was found dead in his medical office in Lindsay, Ont. April 8. The Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to a sudden death call at the doctor's office. His body was sent to the Ontario Centre of Forensic Sciences for a post-mortem.

Police are not pursuing a criminal investigation at this time.

Dr. Kochar's wife, 42-year-old Daphne Kochar, went missing in November 2005. Her body was found by hunters in Estaire the next month, wrapped in a carpet. Nobody was ever charged in her death.

There have been no recent developments in the case, although an “exhaustive homicide investigation” was undertaken by Greater Sudbury Police and the Ontario Provincial Police, according to a press release put out earlier this week by Greater Sudbury Police.

Dr. Kochar, a gynecologist and obstetrician, closed the doors to his Sudbury practice in August 2007 and headed to southern Ontario.

At the time of his death, Dr. Kochar was under a court order to pay more than $200,000 in retroactive child support to the grandparents of his three children, ages 22, and 18-year-old twins, according to media reports. Eighteen months after their mother's disappearance, the girls left their Sudbury home to live with their maternal grandparents near Toronto.

According to media reports, Dr. Kochar is survived by his second wife and a brother, along with his children. He was recently predeceased by his mother.
