Driver behaviour under investigation after truck crashes into Porcupine Mall

No occupants of the mall were injured

A Timmins Police say an investigation is focused on driver behaviour after a truck crashed through the wall of the Porcupine Mall.

The afternoon of Sunday, May 31 a red Dodge Ram pickup truck jumped the curb of the mall and smashed into the building near the Giant Tiger entrance. When it came to a rest, all of the wheels were inside the building.

"The 86-year-old driver and his female passenger were extricated from the vehicle by the Timmins Fire Department and Whitney Volunteer Fire Hall personnel and treated for minor injuries," said police in a news release.

"No occupants of the mall sustained injury."

While the mall is open today, police say the vehicle will remain there as until technical structural appraisals are needed so no further damage is done while it's being removed.

A dollar value of the damage is not known at the time. Police say it "is described as extensive."
