The Ravi family hosts a traditional East Indian Dinner at the Cambrian College Student Centre Sept. 14 to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society Sudbury-Manitoulin North Bay & Districts.

Dr. Samir Sinha, director of geriatrics at Mount Sinai hospital, will be in attendance as guest speaker.

One out of every 10 seniors is living with a form of dementia, but increasingly people in their forties and fifties are being diagnosed.

Dementia results in more years lived with a disability than stroke, heart disease and all forms of cancer.

The rising tide of dementia is here and the number of persons who will require specialized care is increasing at an alarming rate.

The Ravi family has chosen the Alzheimer Society as the recipient charity for this year’s dinner, as their family knows first hand the challenges one faces with this disease.

“This cause is very near and dear to our heart,” said event host Bela Ravi, in a press release.

“My mother-in-law suffers from this awful disease. Thanks to this organization we were able to take care of her at home until December 2016. She was diagnosed almost 10 years back. With our aging population, a place like this is so needed.”

“We are extremely grateful to the Ravi family for choosing the Alzheimer Society as the recipient of funds raised at the event,” said Stephanie Leclair, executive director of the Alzheimer Society.

“Our needs are greater than ever, and having the generosity of our community put forth to assist us in proving essential programs and services is encouraging. We are very thankful.”
