And the golden dancing shoes go to …

The 2017 Dancing with the Easter Seals Stars event that transformed the Caruso Club into a cabaret for one evening on Feb. 24 has come to end, and Greater Sudbury has a new dancing star.

It took months of practice, and hour upon hour of stepping to the beat, and it all led up to last Friday night.

Winning the annual fundraising event — which helps support Easter Seals programs for children with disabilities — was Kristofer Cacciotti of Polestar CM Inc. and his professional partner Zoi Monroy of the Embrace Success dance studio.

Coming in second place was Ryan Carbone of Cambrian College and his partner Sara Bergeron of Dance Evolution, while third place went to Michael Cameron of NewCap Radio/Rewind 103.9 and his dance partner Miranda Waugh of Happiness is Dancing.

This year also featured the unveiling of a new award, given to the contestant who fundraised the most money for Easter Seals.

That honour wen to Cyndi Ingleton of Remax Crown Realty (who danced with professional partner Bob Leduc of Jan Fregonese Dance School). Ingleton raised an impressive $8,500.

The entire event raised a record $80,110 for Easter Seals, Joanne Bowers, the group’s fundraising and events specialist, told Sudbury.com.

“The performances again this year were beyond our expectations,” Bowers said. “The success of the hard work and effort by the dancers, organizing committee, staff and volunteers is a big win for the organization. Thank you to all involved as well as the sponsors and audience.”

For more than 93 years, Easter Seals has provided support for children and youth with physical disabilities from all ethnic and religious backgrounds, offering programs to allow kids to experience freedom, independence and a sense of accomplishment.

Easter Seals provides financial assistance for mobility equipment, communication devices and summer camp opportunities at its two properties, Camp Merrywood and Camp Woodeden.
