March 24 will mark the three decades the Easter Seals Telethon in Northern Ontario takes to the air.

The broadcast will be live from Cambrian College's eDome on Eastlink and Cogeco cable from 1-8 p.m.

The annual Telethon provides an opportunity to get to know some local Easter Seals families and hear their stories, the non-profit organization said in a news release. Local Easter Seals Ambassadors Cassanda Degn and Kyle Leblanc are making their television debut at this year’s Telethon.

There will also be special appearances by past ambassadors, hosts and supporters.

As always, the Telethon will celebrate the year’s fundraising successes, recognize generous supporters, and raise essential funds that help children with physical disabilities and their families who need assistance.

Cathy Macey, volunteer Telethon chair, said she is amazed by the continued support over three decades.

“Ten years is a long time for any event, but three decades of success and continued support is astounding.”

The next few weeks will be spent on finishing touches, scheduling and last-minute recruitment of VIPs.

“The VIP area is a fast-growing component of the Telethon and an opportunity for individuals to showcase their businesses while raising money for children with physical disabilities, all while sitting in a comfy recliner on set,” said Nicole Blais, Easter Seals Northern Development Manager.

Donations can be called into the show live throughout the broadcast or can be made online at www.eastersealstelethon.org.

Individuals can raise funds for the Telethon by using a new online fundraising tool to create individual fundraising pages which can be forwarded to friends, family and co-workers.
