Coronavirus

An unspecified number of COVID-19 cases has resulted in the temporary closure of École Ste-Marie in Azilda by Public Health Sudbury and Districts.

A media release from Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario announced the closure, which is expected to remain in place until Friday, Nov. 12.

As it stands, students are expected to resume their in-class learning on Monday, Nov. 15, though the school division will inform parents and guardians if this ends up not being the case.

The daycare located at École Ste-Marie will remain open for children up to the age of three but will not offer the before and after-school program.

Until the school reopens, kindergarten to Grade 8 students from École Ste-Marie will be able to pursue learning at home in a virtual format. Technological tools are expected to be distributed in the coming days to meet the needs of students.

The Greater Sudbury area has seen the number of COVID-19 cases rise in recent days, with the current active case count now totalling 199

Public Health Sudbury and Districts reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the local jurisdiction on Tuesday alone.
