Wynne joins Thibeault for chamber luncheon:

Premier Kathleen Wynne was in Greater Sudbury today for the first time in more than a year. She joined Minister of Energy and Sudbury MPP Glenn Thibeault for what was billed as a "fireside chat" hosted by the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce at the Holiday Inn on Regent Street. Wynne and Thibeault fielded questions from the floor ranging from the Ring of Fire project to proposed increases to the minimum wage and workplace benefits. Preferred location of new arena/events centre to be revealed June 27:

Greater Sudburians will know by the end of June where a new Sudbury Arena/events centre will be located, should city council decide to go ahead with the $100 million to $120 million facility. City council is holding two special meetings dedicated to the four big projects, with one June 27 devoted to the arena. A meeting on the other three projects – Place des arts, the Synergy Centre, a new art gallery/library – will be held June 28. Read the full story here.

Serré's seniors' strategy gets the go-ahead:

Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré has set the wheels in motion for Canada to develop a National Seniors' Strategy. Serré's private members' motion, M-106, was voted on and passed by Members of Parliament on May 17. The motion is to improve the quality of life for Canadian seniors and provider better support to caregivers through the development of a national strategy. The strategy itself is still very much in its infant stages, though Serré has a framework in mind that is built on four pillars, including education, community support systems, an Alzheimer's and dementia strategy, and home care. Woman flees scene of three-vehicle collision at Notre Dame and Kathleen:

A three-vehicle collision at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Kathleen Street snarled traffic in the Flour Mill on Tuesday afternoon. Bystanders said that the driver of one of the vehicles walked away from the scene on foot. Greater Sudbury Police confirmed they are on the hunt for a woman involved in the crash. She's described as being approximately 25 years old, tall, with dirty blonde hair, wearing a white shirt and black pants. She will possibly have cuts or abrasions to her face and head. Two other drivers were transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Summer temperatures will be like 'whiplash', says meteorologist:

Temperatures this summer are expected to feel like "whiplash," and may swing between hot and cool over the course of the season, a top meteorologist says. The Weather Network released its summer forecast Tuesday, and chief meteorologist Chris Scott said it may feel like being on a teeter-totter. Ontario will very much be on that battle ground, between warm to the south — and hot, humid weather at times — and cool to the north. Much of northern Ontario will see below normal temperatures, most of southern Ontario will see near-normal temps.

New show launching at Dynamic Earth:

Sudbury MP and Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault will be at Dynamic Earth Wednesday evening for the launch of a brand new show. Joe Mac Football League introduces new $5,000 scholarship:

The Joe MacDonald Youth Football League will enter its 24th season this year and league officials have announced the new Joe MacDonald Youth Football Scholarship to past players, officials, coaches and volunteers of the league. The goal of the scholarships, which will be awarded annually, is to financially assist individuals who are pursuing post-secondary education, with special consideration given to those individuals that are participating in both football and scholastics. Every year, up to $5,000 will be made available for consideration to those who apply for the scholarships. The deadline to submit your application this year will be Aug. 1.
