Author Karma Brown, along with Katie Hilton, will be at Chapters this evening to sign their new books.

Here are some stories to start your day.

One dead in two-vehicle crash Saturday on Capreol Road:

ICYMI: An unidentified 22-year-old man was killed in the crash Saturday on Capreol Road, Greater Sudbury Police tweeted Sunday. "Two others treated at HSN," the tweet said. "Anybody with information please contact the Traffic Management Unit."

Erasing the stigma around depression, mood disorders:

Almost everyone has either suffered from depression at some point in their lives, or knows someone who has. While awareness of the issue is becoming more common, a walk held Saturday at Bell Park aimed to help dispel some of the stigma still attached to mood disorders in general, and depression in particular. Sudbury Defeat Depression attracted hundreds of participants, who walked or ran 2K, 4K or 10K, raising money for the Northern Initiative for Social Action (NISA) in the process.

40-something women's (very) complex lives fodder for new novels:

Authors Kate Hilton and Karma Brown will be at the Sudbury Chapters tonight from 7-8 p.m. to speak about their new books and answer questions. They'll also be signing early-release copies of their novels. Hilton is releasing her second book, “Just Like Family,” while Brown puts out her third, “In This Moment.”

Rainy night means 'Beauty and the Beast' screening rescheduled:

Due to inclement weather May 25, the season opener for Movie Night Under the Stars has been rescheduled to June 1. The classic edition of Beauty and the Beast will be screened that night. The film screens starting Thursday night at around 9 p.m. (or when it's dark enough) in the parking lot at 128 Larch St.

LU names honourary doctorate recipients:

A public health researcher, a lawyer and philanthropist, an Anishinaabe Elder and an architect will receive honourary doctorates from Laurentian University at its spring convocation ceremonies next week.  “The honorary doctorate recipients this spring have contributed to the betterment of society through their wisdom, dedication, and commitment,” said Dominic Giroux, president of Laurentian University. “Their selfless contributions and achievements have touched the lives of many and we are thrilled to welcome them as part of our Laurentian Alumni family.”

Sudbury Symphony presents Noye's Fludde June 3:

Noye's Fludde, the one-act opera by British composer Benjamin Britten, is being performed at Glad Tidings Church June 3. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. The opera premiered in 1958, and was specifically created to engage a small community in opera. Fludde invites you to re-examine your feelings about both opera and the classic tale of Noah and his ark.

Three aboriginal artists collaborate on GNO exhibit:

The GNO (Galerie du Nouvel-Ontario) is inviting community members to its newest exhibition, Beshaabiiganan, from artists Darlene Naponse, Deanna Nebenionquit and Tanya Lukin Linklater. The exhibition starts with an opening reception at 7 p.m. June 1, and runs through until July 8. The exhibition is the result of conversations between the three Indigenous artists. Their shared concerns — land, Indigenous languages, treaty, relationships, histories and futures — inform the installation. The exhibition’s title, Beshaabiiganan, is the Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe) word for “lines.”

Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl coming up June 3:

The latest edition of the Downtown Sudbury Art Crawl (DSAC) is coming up Saturday, June 3. The crawl features 21 visual arts hotspots sure to be enjoyed by everyone from the merely curious to the seasoned crawler. Admission is free. DSAC provides an opportunity for visitors to experience art and interact with local artists. Many artists will be present at featured locations and some will be performing and creating pieces live.
