The circus is in town this weekend:

Super Circus Spectacular takes over the Sudbury Arena this Saturday, May 27. This all-new show will feature three different performances at 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Returning for a second time to Canada, the world-renowned Super Circus Spectacular was created by famed circus producer Cindy Migley in conjunction with the Sarasota Producing Company. This two-hour show will entertain you from start to finish, with artists from across the globe. Touring Canada one last time for a strictly limited season, the show boasts an entertaining cast of comical clowns, spellbinding aerialists, dare-devil motorcyclists and energetic animals.

NISA raises awareness of Defeat Depression walk:

The fourth annual Defeat Depression Fun Walk/Run takes place today (May 27). The event gets underway starting at 9 a.m. at the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre. Organizers hope to raise $40,000, about three quarters of which will be put towards the peer-run mental health programming run by NISA.

Local author writes about a post-apocalyptic Sudbury:

Imagine a post-apocalyptic world where there's no more oil and the world's economy has collapsed. Now imagine what residents of Greater Sudbury would do in that situation. That's exactly what local author Kristan Cannon's "Kingdom of Walden" series is all about. Cannon is holding a book signing for “Ghostwalker” at Sudbury Chapters from 12-4 p.m. May 27. Her books are available at Sudbury Chapters, Bay Used Books, through online retailers such as Amazon or on her website.

Mandarin MS Walk this Sunday:

Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world. When you join Mandarin MS Walk, you join our country’s collective effort to help improve the lives of Canadians affected by MS. The dollars you raise are invested in world-leading MS research happening right here in Canada. The Sudbury MS Walk is happening Sunday at Adamsdale Park, with check in time at 9 a.m. and the walk starting at 10:30 a.m.

Jousting on Moonlight Beach: Knights of Valour in town May 27:

Knights of Valour Extreme Jousting returns to Greater Sudbury on Saturday, May 27 at Moonlight Beach. The show will feature performers Zoltan the Adequate, Sarah Cosner and Kobbler Jay. The event will also include the birds of prey show by the Canadian Raptor Conservancy. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the show starts 7 p.m. The event goes rain or shine. Guests can bring their own lawn chair for the event. 

Celebrate Canada 150 at the Sudbury Gardening Festival:

The Sudbury Gardening Festival, which will take place May 27 downtown at the YMCA Sudbury building, has received a Canada 150 Garden Experience designation - meaning it's one of the 150 garden ways to celebrate Canada's birthday. Admission for the Sudbury Gardening Festival is free and takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 27 inside and outside the YMCA Sudbury building, located at 140 Durham Street. Downtown yard sale a bargain hunters' haven:

Bargain hunters rejoice — Sudbury's Largest Yard and Sidewalk Sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 27 in Downtown Sudbury. The event is takes place on Larch Street (between Durham and Elgin) and the adjacent municipal parking lot. The yard sale will include live entertainment and festival food favourites. The Canadian Diabetes Association truck will be parked on site so if you have items you'd like to donate, drop them off. Sudbury's Largest Yard and Sidewalk Sale runs rain or shine.

Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History takes place May 28:

The Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History takes place at Kivi Park on May 28. The fundraiser for Cystic Fibrosis Canada goes to world-class research and to advocate and support high-quality individualized CF care. In Canada, it is estimated that one in every 3,600 children born has CF, a disease that has various effects on the body, but mainly on the digestive system and lungs. Currently, there is no cure. The walk takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 28. Participants will enjoy full use of Kivi Park, although the 3.5-kilometre green trail, also known as the Wishing Tree Trail, will be dedicated to the walk. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m.
