Voters are seen departing the Tom Davies Square voting station on Oct. 22, following the second of two advance paper ballot voting opportunities.

Delays reported at Greater Sudbury voting stations have been resolved, according to the City of Greater Sudbury.

Voters reported a slowdown earlier today, which is election day for this year’s civic election throughout the province.

The city noted the delays at polling stations were caused by the third-party paper ballot voting system, Voter View. At the time, a city spokesperson noted that things were “still up and running,” but that there were longer wait times than usual.

Sudbury.com received reports of delays in Capreol and at Countryside Arena in the South End, with readers stating that ballots aren't printing and voters, mostly seniors, are being sent to a library branch to vote online.

As election day kicked off today, 29.18 per cent of eligible voters have already cast ballots as of 12:48 p.m., which includes two advance paper ballot voting opportunities and online voting, which has been open since Oct. 14.

Online voting continues today until all polling stations close at 8 p.m. Those who received voter information cards can use their pin number to vote online. For those with errors in their voter registration information or who have not received their voter identification letters in the mail with the code required to vote online, they can get one through any Citizen Service Centre or municipal library, which have been set up as Voter Registration Centres. Valid identification is required.

The city has also lined up 27 locations for regular paper ballot voting on election day until 8 p.m., at the following vote-anywhere locations, where ballots are printed on demand:

Voters should be aware that Mayor Brian Bigger’s name will still appear on the ballot despite the fact he indicated earlier this month that he was stepping down from consideration for family reasons.

The first round of election results is expected at approximately 9:30 p.m., which Sudbury.com will report on as quickly as possible. This initial round will include electronic voting results. Unofficial results from paper ballots will come later that evening.

The Municipal Elections Act requires that election results are not to be declared "official" until at least Tuesday, Oct. 25.
