The Corner Clinic has unveiled a new social enterprise that they hope will put a sense of pride back into people who can't find work.

Even thought it was only the first major step, people behind the enterprise can hardly wait to take the next steps because all signs are positive so far.

The group presented feasibility results on Thursday morning and picked a small biodiesel plant as their business concept.

The project proposes the biodiesel plant would be 2,500 square feet and would produce 300,000-litres in its first year, ramping up to 500,000-litres in the following years.
It would create seven full time jobs, two in the management sector and five in the manufacturing process.

Daniel Gingras, president of Gingras and Associates, conducted the study and was excited about the prospects.

"It's based on gathering used oil from restaurants. It's a very clean product and not dangerous. The people would have to have the skills to drive a vehicle safely, look good and be able to talk to the restaurant owner,? said Gingras.

?There's a market for it,? said Gingras. ?The major distributors are down south. City transit buses and Inco vehicles are experimenting with biodiesel. There's a need and an interest in this type of social enterprise."

Now the process enters the business plan stage in which they hope to woo government enough to help contribute some start up money. The project needs $75,000 for start up and equipment and another $120,000 for salary and benefits.
