Eat Local Sudbury's third annual Harvest Feast Gala Fundraiser takes place at Collège Boréal's “Au pied du rocher” Sept. 29.

More than 200 guests will sit down for a gourmet three-course meal prepared by Chef Jean Huneault and featuring the best local and seasonal ingredients that our region has to offer.

This year’s event will also mark 10 years in operation for the member-owned, not-for-profit co-operative.

“This is a big milestone for us,” said store manager Erica Lagios, in a press release.

“Eat Local Sudbury has had some bumps in the road over the past year and a half, but we’ve made it through and have a lot to celebrate at this year’s Harvest Feast.”

Back in March 2016, the co-op was faced with financial troubles that nearly caused it to fold. Thanks to a successful fundraising campaign, a loan to help with cash flow, and the support of members and shoppers, the co-op is heading into its 10th anniversary with a positive outlook.

“The harvest season is upon us, and the store is full of fresh, local produce,” Lagios said.

“We are so thankful to everyone who has supported us through our ups and downs and hope the community will join us in celebration at the Harvest Feast.”

The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. when guests can enjoy a selection of local cheeses and crudités, sample local craft beers, bid at a silent auction, enjoy live music and visit with local farmers and producers at the Farmer Meet & Greet trade show.

A gourmet, three-course dinner with complementary Ontario wine pairings will follow.

“We’re looking forward to another delicious menu, where local ingredients get to shine,” Lagios said.

Eat Local has once again teamed up with Co-op Boreal’s Chef Jean Huneault to deliver a decadent meal that showcases local flavours.

“Nearly every ingredient used comes from a local, northern Ontario farm – everything from cheese and crudités, to meat and fresh vegetables,” Lagios said.

“This year’s main course will feature a grilled short-rib of beef from Penokean Hills Farms from the Algoma area. And no celebration would be complete without a slice of birthday cake, prepared with local flour, butter and eggs.”

Vegan and gluten-free menu options are also available.

The event will wrap up with an overview of the milestones Eat Local Sudbury has achieved over the past 10 years, as well as the presentation of the 2017 Local Food Champions Awards, which recognize the individuals, farmers, business owners and organizations in northeastern Ontario who are shaping our local food system.

Tickets are on sale until Sept. 25 at the Eat Local Sudbury Co-op Store downtown on Larch Street and online at EatLocalSudbury.com
