An Estaire family is homeless after a fire that started in their garage spread to their home, said the Ontario Provincial Police in a tweet on April 2.

The Estaire Fire Department responded to the call on Secord Road. The OPP assisted with traffic control and statements. The homeowners made it out safely, and there were no injuries.

The fire isn't considered suspicious. The fire department is investigating.

Adam Small, a captain with the Estaire Fire Department, said they got the call around 7:50 a.m. on April 2. A total of 10 volunteer firefighters responded and remained on-scene until about 1:30 p.m.

The challenge in fighting this particular fire was a lack of access to water. Firefighters had to drill through ice on a pond behind the house, as well as truck in water to fight the flames.

Also, the house has a number of additions built onto to, and getting through several layers of roof made it even more difficult.
