The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) is extending an olive branch to the province's newly elected premier.

In a press release, the union welcomes Kathleen Wynne's election, and said it would like to meet with her at the earliest opportunity.

The union also expresses hope “that respectful discussions can begin to help end the chaos in schools created by Bill 115.”

“We hope that Premier Wynne will govern in the best interests of working people in Ontario and restore the democratic values that have shaped this province,” ETFO president Sam Hammond said.

“The imposition of Bill 115 by the Liberal government and Progressive Conservatives has caused chaos in the education sector. We believe the new premier has a fresh opportunity to work to resolve that situation.

“We would like to meet with Premier Wynne to begin to restore democracy and resolve ongoing issues in our schools through respectful discussions.

“The sooner we can meet with the premier, the sooner we can work together to try and bring peace and stability back to our schools.”
