Construction of watermain improvements on Algonquin Road, between Old Burwash Road and Regent Street, is underway and is expected to be completed by Oct. 31. However, the traffic will be maintained between 7 a.m and 7 p.m. until work is completed.
The project is one of a number of infrastructure projects on the go in Greater Sudbury as part of the summer construction season. Here's a look at some of the other projects:
-For the next three weeks, one southbound lane will be closed on the Paris Street bridge to allow for repairs to the bridge deck.
-On Bellevue Drive in Minnow Lake, construction will slow westbound traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 7-8. Work will alternate between the westbound and eastbound lanes, and across the full width of road. However, all work is weather dependent. If necessary, the city will return to finish the project Aug. 11-12.
-Blasting and rock removal on Big Nickel Road will continue all month, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to sunset. While work is ongoing, Big Nickel Road will be open to one lane of traffic only. Expect temporary full road closures for up to 30 minutes to accommodate blasting and rock removal.
-Railway repairs will close Guenette Drive at the railway crossing Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Railway repairs will close Bodson Drive at the railway crossing Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sanitation sewer upgrades, new curbs and new sidewalks will cause reductions in traffic lanes in the area of Highway 69 North (MR80) and Main Street (MR15) to Cecile Street in Val Caron. A reduction in lanes will be necessary until work wraps up at the end of October.
Improvements include reconstruction of the roadway at the intersection, including new pavement, granulars, sidewalk, and curbs. The intersection is being widened with additional turn lanes and through lanes.
Road rehabilitation included new surface asphalt on MR80 from the intersection of MR15 to Cecile Street. Utility poles are being relocated, as are storm sewer upgrades throughout.
