If you happen to be using city transit this weekend, expect to hurry up and wait.

In a news release, the city said Greater Sudbury Transit is expecting to run slightly behind schedule this weekend as a result of construction on Barrydowne Road.

Much as it did a few weeks ago with Falconbridge Road, the city will close Barrydowne Road this weekend starting at 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

The closure is part of ongoing efforts this summer by CN and CP to repair rail crossings in the city. Repairs will be on weekends, in each location, and require full road closures.

This weekend, Barrydowne Road will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday (July 9) to 6 a.m. on Monday (July 11). Keep an eye out for road closure and detour signs.

This will impact all bus routes by delaying connections with buses arriving from New Sudbury. Arrival and departure times are available online at mybus.greatersudbury.ca or by dialing 705-675-3333 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

There will be no bus service on Barrydowne Road between New Sudbury Centre and Hawthorne Drive. Affected routes are:

  • 002 Second Avenue/Shopping Centre;
  • 103 Coniston;
  • 241 Howey/Moonlight/Shopping Centre;
  • 303 Garson/Falconbridge;
  • 401 Barry Downe/Cambrian; and
  • 402 Barry Downe/Cambrian Sunday service.

Route 002 Second Avenue/Shopping Centre will detour to Auger Avenue and Lasalle Boulevard. Buses will not travel on Hawthorne Drive and Barrydowne Road, the city said.

After 10 p.m., Route 241 Howey/Moonlight/Shopping Centre and Sunday service will detour to Hawthorne Drive to reach the Downtown Transit Terminal and to Auger Avenue and Lasalle Boulevard to reach New Sudbury Centre.

For more information on road construction, including detours, check out the city's Road and Traffic Restrictions (RATR) application here.
