Explore geology and develop a better understanding of earth sciences, at the Harquail school of Earth Sciences and Orix Geoscience Inc. Open House May 7 from 6-8 p.m. at Laurentian University's Willet Green Miller Centre.

This special event has been designed to introduce high school students to the role of a geologist, but is open to anyone interested in learning more about the science of our world.

The Harquail School of Earth Sciences at Laurentian University offers two BSc degree programs. The first of which, provides quality instruction in the field of geology (BSc Earth Sciences), while the other is designed to train geologists in the field of Environmental Geosciences (BSc Environmental Geosciences).

Both programs have the lesson plans and expectations required, for graduates to become certified as a professional geoscientist across Canada.

Whether you like working outdoors, across the world, or behind a computer screen, you may just find your place in the world of geoscience.

Open House Activities:

  • ArcGIS (Geographic Information System): Learn what goes into making and understanding maps.
  • Geomatics & Software Development (coding): Learn the power of computer programming in the mining industry.
  • 3D Modelling: Learn about the layers of 3D geological modelling.
  • Interpretation: Learn why geology is called the “artistic science”.
  • Core Logging & Mapping: Learn the importance of boots on the ground field work.
