Poulin is as senior member of the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists whose international reputation spans more 30 years.

Many Sudbury parents cherish portraits of their children done by Poulin when he lived in Sudbury.

His wife is Senator Marie Paule Poulin, the founding director of CBC Radio?s Northern Ontario French Services, which launched the Sudbury radio station CBON.

Bernard Poulin?s work graces the walls of many private and corporate collections from the United States to Australia, from Beijing to London. Poulin has rendered official portraits of royalty, the clergy, the judiciary, key academic as well as corporate and political figures.

Poulin has also penned several articles published in professional art magazines. He is the author of seven books, the last five published by North Light Books of Cincinnati, Ohio. His: The Complete Colored Pencil Book, (1992) was translated into French in 1995. This book has since sold more than 65,000 copies. Last spring, it was re-issued in soft cover.

18 picked for Sudbury Canadians
After six months of recruiting and scouting Sudbury?s United Soccer League team line up is taking shape.

The Canadians held their final identification camp recently where 18 female players were formally added to the Northern Ontario team pool.

The Canadians, which are scheduled to get a taste of their first North American league action in late April.

The local team will participate in Northern America USL W League ? second only to the Women?s Professional Soccer League.

Sudbury Canadians head coach is Frank Malvaso.

Sudbury players selected are Beatrice Wuthrich, Alyia Pabani, Sally Parent, Lauren Duhaime, Megan Schutt, Francesca Malvaso, Melyinda Roach, Julia Boschetto,

Kristen Cecchetto, Regina Armeinto and Kailey Smith

Along with Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, Sudbury is the fourth city in Canada to host a women?s semi professional soccer team.

Christmas tree collection
The City of Greater Sudbury will collect and recycle natural Christmas trees. Citizens are asked to leave trees at the roadside by 6 am Monday, Jan. 13. Trees will be collected during the week. Please remove the tree stand and all decorations.

Trees may also be brought to designated areas at local landfill sites. All trees will be chipped and composted.

Budget meetings scheduled

City Council invites citizens, businesses and organizations to share ideas during a public input session for the 2003 budget deliberations, Monday, Jan. 27, from 7 pm to 10 pm in the council chambers of Tom Davies Square.

A copy of the first draft of the 2003 budget will be available for public viewing at all Citizen Service Centres, including Tom Davies Square, starting Jan. 25. For more information, phone 671-CITY (2489) or visit the city?s website.

Campaign successful
Again this past Christmas season a special Spirit of Reading Tree program was sponsored by Downtown Sudbury, Vista Management, Rainbow Outlet Centre and the CTV Lion?s Christmas Telethon.

Christmas Reading Trees adorned with tags were located at 22 participating downtown businesses. The public was invited to take a tag and buy a children?s book.

Thanks to the generous support of downtown businesses and the community, more than 1,000 books were collected this year for local youngsters. That brings the total to more than 3,500 in the three years the program has run.
