While the search for Sudbury man and his partner, missing since early August in a remote, mountainous area near the Quebec-Labrador border, has not officially been cancelled, the man?s mother has finally come to accept he may be dead.

Georgette Pauze has not heard from Daniel, 31, and his partner, Susan Barnes, 32, since Aug. 8 when they were preparing to scale a mountain that straddles the border.

The search for the couple began Aug. 22, after they failed to meet up with a pilot hired to pick them up after they?d climbed the mountain.

The search has been called off numerous times due to hazardous weather.

This week, the Sudbury couple is facing a painful reality.

Pauze and her husband are planning to leave for Mississauga to spend time with Barnes? parents and to close the young couple?s condominium. The families are planning to hold a memorial service next week.
