Rainbow Routes Association is launching its very own Sudbury 'Camino.'

Inspired by the famous El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes, the Sudbury Camino is a challenge initiated by Rainbow Routes Association via its urban hiking program, Explore Sudbury.

The challenge offers a unique Camino-like experience enabling the discovery of Greater Sudbury’s portion of The Great Trail (Trans Canada Trail).

The 20-kilometre Camino route encompasses trails between Moonlight Beach and Robinson Park, a portion of the 93-kilometre Sudbury section of the Trans Canada Trail.

From Aug. 1 to 26, Rainbow Routes is encouraging everyone to walk as much of the Sudbury Camino route as possible.

There are two ways to complete the full challenge. Pre-register online and join Rainbow Routes on Aug. 12 at 8:30 a.m. at Moonlight Beach for Explore Sudbury’s official Camino hike.

You will be free to walk the entire 20-kilometre route or stop at transit stop locations along the way. Public transit tickets will be provided, if needed.

The second option is to walk the Camino route on your own between Aug. 1 and Aug. 26, taking photos at the designated milestone locations. With these photos, you will be able to collect stamps at the Trans Canada Trail celebration event on Aug. 26.

Interested participants can pick up their official Camino passports at the Main, South End or New Sudbury Public Library Branch beginning Aug. 1.

This comprehensive booklet outlines the Camino route including information on how to participate and collect challenge stamps that can be redeemed for a limited edition Rainbow Routes prize.
