Federal NDP leader Jack Layton will be among the those attending a rally in support of striking Steelworkers Local 6500 members this morning (Sept. 19) at 11 a.m.

The union members have been on strike since July 13 after they failed to reach a collective agreement with Vale Inco.

Provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath will also be attending the rally, along with international Steelworkers president Leo Gerard.

“Vale made commitments to the Canadian government and to this community, and they need to be held accountable,” said Layton, in a press release. “The company needs to know that the people of Sudbury and the entire labour community will be supporting these hard working families until a settlement can be reached.”
