The federal government has opened the online Passport Application Status Checker.

The service allows people to check the status of their passport application online with a few clicks and some basic information.

“This is positive news for the people of Sudbury,” Sudbury Liberal MP Viviane Lapointe said in a media release.

“Having access to information about your passport application will help eliminate uncertainty and long call wait-times. It’s easy-to-use, and available 24 hours a day.”

Last year, Sudbury’s Service Canada Centre became a 10-day passport pick-up site.

The new 10-day service has been incredibly beneficial to the region, according to the media release, and has helped reduce backlogs. Between the launch on Sept. 7, 2022, and March 8, 2023, the Sudbury Service Canada Centre has processed almost 5,400 passport applications.
