Festive events in Rainbow Schools

Elementary Schools A.B. Ellis Public School A.B. Ellis Public School will host a concert and assembly on Thursday, December 20th at 1 pm in the school gym. On Friday, December 21st at 9 am, the entire school will participate in a sing-along.

Adamsdale Public School
Adamsdale Public School will celebrate the holiday season with the theme Traditions Around the World. Concerts will be presented on Tuesday, December 11th (primary students) and Wednesday, December 12th (junior students) at 6 pm.  Parents/guardians are welcome to attend the evening concerts or the rehearsals, which will take place on both days from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.  There will be a draw for a gift from Scholar's Choice at the evening concerts.

Assiginack Public School
Assiginack Public School will host a canned food drive from December 10th to 14th. The school’s Christmas Concert will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at 7 pm.  Everyone is welcome.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School
Staff and students at Carl A. Nesbitt Public School began a canned food drive on December 3rd.

Carl A. Nesbitt Public School will present The Legend of Polar Mountain on Thursday, December 20th from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. All students will participate in the musical, which will focus on elements of the winter holidays celebrated by people of different faiths and cultures from all over the world.  The setting will be a snowy mountain illuminated by the Northern Lights There will be a basket raffle and bake sale during the concert.

Central Manitoulin Public School
Central Manitoulin Public School will host Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 8th from 9 am to 11 am. The school will also host a canned food drive until December 18th.

The Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30 pm at Central Manitoulin Public School. Everyone is asked to please bring a non-perishable food item.

Chelmsford Public School
The Christmas Concert at Chelmsford Public School will take place in the gym on Tuesday, December 18th at 1:30 pm and Wednesday, December 19th at 1:30 pm.  Admission is a canned food item. Classes will perform for parents/guardians, families and friends. Everyone is welcome.

A Family Sing-along will take place in the gym of Chelmsford Public School on Thursday, December 13th from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm. Admission is a canned food item. The school will also be accepting donations to help fund its very active Choir and Guitar Club on their many outings in the community. The School Choir and Guitar Club will perform along with Rob Murphy on piano. Family, friends and neighbours are welcome.

Chelmsford Public School will be accepting the following items to assist families in the school until December 14th - canned food, gently used toys, gently used clothing and books for new readers. Donation boxes are available at the main entrance of the school.

The Chelmsford Public School Choir and Guitar Club will spread Christmas cheer throughout the community, at the following concerts:
Tuesday, December 11th - Extendicare Falconbridge at 10:30 am; Westmount Public School at noon; and Finlandia at 1:15 pm; and Thursday, December 13th - Place Bonaventure Mall at 1:30 pm; and the First Annual Family Christmas Sing-along with guest performer Rob Murphy at 6:30 pm at Chelmsford Public School.   

Cyril Varney Public School
There will be two performances of the Cyril Varney Annual Christmas Concert Christmas Dreams on Tuesday, December 18th from 1:30 pm to 3 pm and 6:30 pm to 8 pm in the school gym. Admission is a non-perishable food item (to be donated to a local food bank).
                                        
The Cyril Varney Public School Christmas Choir Recital will take place on Wednesday, December 20th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Sheridan Auditorium at Sudbury Secondary School. Admission is $2 for adults. Children are free.

Copper Cliff Public School
The Copper Cliff Public School Christmas Concert will take place on Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30 pm in the school gym. The school band will perform at the concert. (Please note: The concert will be held on Thursday, December 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the event of inclement weather.) Optional concert admission fee is one non-perishable food item for families in need in the Copper Cliff and Greater Sudbury areas.  Everyone in the community is welcome. 

The Copper Cliff Public School band and primary and senior choirs will visit Copper Cliff Manor on Thursday, December 20th in the afternoon.  The residents will participate in a festive sing-along with the students.

Copper Cliff Public School will host a festive sing-along for students and staff in the gym the morning of Friday, December 21st.

The school is also participating in the Sudbury Food Bank Christmas Gift Card Program. Interested parents/guardians purchase gift cards in lieu of Christmas gifts for teachers.

The Copper Cliff Public School Student Council has organized a food drive. Non-perishable food items are being collected until December 14th for families in the Copper Cliff and Greater Sudbury areas.

Student Council is organizing a Red/Green Spirit Day on Friday, December 14th.

C.R. Judd Public School
The C. R. Judd Public School Christmas concert will be held on Tuesday, December 18th with a matinee at 1:30 pm and an evening performance at 6:30 pm.  Admission is a donation of food for the school’s annual canned food drive.  All donations will be delivered to the Capreol Bread and Roses Food Bank.

Ernie Checkeris Public School
The Grade 2 class at Ernie Checkeris Public School participated in the official launch of the City of Greater Sudbury’s Food Drive in mid-November.  On December 2nd, Q-92’s Mellaney Dahl hosted the kick off of the school’s food drive in support of the Neighbourhood Action Committee.

Ernie Checkeris Public School invites parents/guardians to bring in donations of non-perishable food items as admission to the Christmas Concert on Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30 pm.

Wanting to provide for those less fortunate, staff members have decided to ask parents/guardians who would otherwise buy gifts to purchase gift cards for the Food Bank. Ernie Checkeris has also been collecting pennies over the past few months to make a donation to an organization that supports needy families. School Council has suggested that this year’s donation be given to the Children’s Aid Society.

The Ernie Checkeris Public School choir will perform at the Rainbow Centre on Friday, December 14th from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Staff and students are looking forward to gathering together for carol singing each afternoon during the last week of school before the Christmas holidays.

Gatchell School
Gatchell School will host a Christmas Concert on Friday, December 7th at 1 pm. Parents/guardians are invited to join the festivities. After the concert, the school will serve a variety of tasty treats, baked by the students.

On Friday, December 14th at noon, Gatchell School will enjoy a Christmas feast prepared by students and staff.

Jessie Hamilton Public School
On Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30 pm, the junior classes of Jessie Hamilton Public School will present 'A Student's Christmas Carol.' Following this, the Jessie Hamilton Concert Band will perform a variety of Christmas selections. 'Santa's Christmas Hoedown' will be presented by the intermediate students.

On Thursday, December 13th, learn what makes a Walden holiday magical! The primary students will present 'A Magic Holiday!'. There will be two performances - a matinée at 1:45 pm and an evening performance at 6:30 pm.

Also at Jessie Hamilton Public School, an Ojibwe storyteller will share her craft with junior and intermediate students on Monday, December 17th.

And the school will host Christmas caroling in the gym on Thursday, December 20th and Friday, December 21st at 9 am. In addition, the Concert Band will perform at Tom Davies Square at 11:15 am on Friday, December 21st.

Larchwood Public School
Larchwood Public School is collecting non-perishable food items for the Local Christmas Hamper collection sponsored by community organizations such as the Lions and Elks.

The Larchwood Public School Christmas concert will be presented on Wednesday, December 19th at 1 pm and Thursday, December 20th at 7 pm. The school also has a mitten tree set up in the front hall to collect mittens, scarves and hats to donate to the Geneva House.
During the last week of school before holidays, parents/guardians, relatives and community friends are invited to join staff and students at the school for a Christmas sing-along.

Little Current Public School
The Little Current Public School Christmas Concert "Winter Celebrations Across the Cultures" will take place on Wednesday, December 19th. There will be a matinée at 1 pm and an evening concert at 7 pm. Everyone is asked to bring a canned food item to the concert.

Little Current Public School’s Holiday Canned Food Drive takes place from Monday, December 10th to Wednesday, December 19th.

Little Current Public School provided 58 boxes of gifts and essential items to children in need as part of the Operation Christmas Child Shoebox School Challenge.

Long Lake Public School
The Long Lake Public School Bi-Annual Christmas Tea will take place on Tuesday, December 18th from 6:30 pm to 8 pm at the school at 4420 Long Lake Road, Sudbury. Enjoy a cake walk, children’s games, gift baskets, tea room, raffles and more to fill your evening with Christmas spirit. Admission is a canned food item for the NAPOS food drive.  Everyone is welcome.

Queen Elizabeth Public School
Queen Elizabeth Public School will host a Christmas Bazaar on Friday, December 7th from 11 am to 2 pm. Admission of $3 includes tea and treats. Activities are $1 each. There will be pictures with Santa.

Queen Elizabeth is hosting a canned food drive. All items collected will be donated to the community on December 21st, 2007.

MacLeod Public School
MacLeod Public School will host a number of festive activities. The Junior Choir and Intermediate Band will perform on Thursday, December 13th at 7 pm.  The concert for Grade 3 to 6 students will take place on Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30 pm.  The Annex concert, for JK to Grade 2 students, will be held on Wednesday, December 19th at 12:30 pm and 6 pm.  Admission to all concerts is a canned food item.  Staff and students at MacLeod Public School are collecting canned food items for the food bank throughout December and are encouraging families to purchase $5 food bank cards in lieu of teacher gifts.

Markstay Public School
Markstay Public School will host its annual Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 12th at 1 pm.  The junior/intermediate students will attend Sudbury Secondary School’s performance of “A Christmas Carol” on December 17th. 

Monetville Public School
Students at Monetville Public School have gathered non-perishable food items for the French River Region Lions Christmas baskets

Monetville’s SK to Grade 8 choir will perform at the school’s Christmas Concert, on Thursday, December 20th at 1 pm. The concert will be held in the gym.
 
Red and Green Day will take place on Friday, December 21st.

Northeastern Elementary School
The Northeastern Annual Christmas Concert parent recital will be presented on Thursday, December 13th at 1:30 pm. The evening concert will be held on Thursday, December 13th at 6 pm.

Princess Anne Public School
Princess Anne Public School will present the play Paint the Town December. The performances will take place on Tuesday, December 18th at 9:45 am and Wednesday, December 19th at 2 pm and 7 pm. There is no cost for the performance, but tickets must be reserved by calling the school.

Redwood Acres Public School
Students at Redwood Acres Public School are participating in the "Children Changing the World" campaign. They are raising money to provide a well for drinking water for a community in India.

On Tuesday, December 18th and Wednesday, December 19th from noon to 1 pm, Redwood Acres Public School students from JK to Grade 5 will perform The Twelve Days of Christmas. Families are invited to donate a non-perishable food item. In addition, the Redwood Community is supporting the food banks this year with its Christmas Gift Card Campaign.

R.H. Murray Public School
The R.H. Murray Public School Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 13th at 1 pm and 6 pm.

R.L. Beattie Public School
R.L. Beattie Public School’s annual food drive continues until December 18th. All items collected will be donated to "Paris Pantry", a local food bank. 

At R.L. Beattie Public School, JK to Grade 3/4 students are busy preparing for the “Sounds of Christmas”.  The dress rehearsal for JKA to Grade 3/4 students will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at 1 pm.   In order to accommodate all families, the JKB to Grade 3/4 concert will be performed twice on Thursday, December 20th - at 9:30 am and 1 pm.  Parents are invited to attend one of the concert presentations.

R.L. Beattie Public School will host Red and Green Day on Thursday, December 20th.  All Beattie Barons are encouraged to catch the spirit and dress in red or green.

Valley View Public School
Valley View Public School is hosting a canned food drive from December 10th to 14th.

Wanup Public School
Wanup Public School’s Festival of Lights will take place on Thursday, December 13th at 6:30 pm.

The school is hosting a canned food drive to support the Sudbury Food Bank.  Supply teacher Brent Labine has agreed to dye his hair pink if the students collect 500 cans of non-perishable food items.  If the students collect 800 cans, he has agreed to have his head shaved at the Festival of Lights assembly.

The Wanup Public School Student Council has adopted two families through the Children's Aid Society. They are collecting cash donations, food, toys and Canadian Tire money.

Warren Public School
Warren Public School’s Annual Winter Concert will take place on Friday, December 14th at 1 pm at the school. Students will perform for family and friends. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments and a small snack will be provided after the concert. 

Webbwood Public School
The Webbwood Public School choir will sing at the Old Vault Restaurant  on Thursday, December 13th at 12:30 pm. On Friday, December 14th, the Espanola High School Band will perform at Webbwood Public School at 9:30 am. The choir will sing at the Espanola Senior's Centre at 1 pm. Webbwood Public School will host its Christmas Concert in the school gym on Wednesday, December 19th at 1 pm and 6:30. There will be a silver collection at the door.

Wembley Public School
On Thursday, December 13th, Wembley Public School's Free The Children Club (Grades 4 to 8) will visit Pioneer Manor to sing Christmas carols, exchange holiday cards and offer their best wishes.

The Primary Christmas Concert (K to Grade 3) will take place on Monday, December 17th at 6 pm. The Junior/Intermediate Family Sing-along will take place on Tuesday December 18th at 6 pm.

Westmount Avenue Public School
Staff, students and parents/guardians of Westmount Avenue Public School are supporting the Food Bank by conducting a drive for non-perishable food items during December. Parents/guardians are invited to donate food items as admission to the school’s Christmas Concert on Wednesday, December 19th at 6:30 pm. Staff have also decided to ask parents/guardians to purchase gift cards for the Food Bank, in lieu of gifts for teachers. As part of the school’s Adopt-a-Family project, Westmount has been collecting pennies for the last several months to make Christmas brighter for a local family.

Secondary Schools
Chelmsford Valley District Composite School
Art students from Chelmsford Valley District Composite School have painted window murals at the Chelmsford Post Office and Library. Grade 11 art students have created a 30-foot Christmas snow scene for CJTK's Christmas Concert at the Fraser Auditorium.

The entire school was also involved in a canned food drive, which culminated on Friday, December 7th. Staff and students will have a Christmas assembly at noon on Friday, December 21st.

Confederation Secondary School
Confederation Secondary School will host its 27th annual "Christmas is Giving" food drive in partnership with the Capreol Lions Club on Wednesday, December 12th. Student groups will canvass the Valley East and Capreol areas for non-perishable food items from 9 am to 11 am. 

The non-perishable food items collected will be given to two local food banks - Good Neighbour Food Bank and the Capreol Food Bank.  Groups of student volunteers will go door to door and accept any donations of non-perishable food items.

Community members who will not be home during that morning are asked to leave any non-perishable food items by the door for the volunteers to pick up.

Espanola High School
Staff and students at Espanola High School collected over 5,000 items for the food bank in Espanola during its Canned Food Drive in November. On Sunday, December 16th, the school will host a Breakfast with Santa to raise funds for World Vision. The school’s
Arts Christmas Cabaret will take place on Tuesday, December 18th.
A Christmas Assembly for the students and staff will be held on Friday, December 21st.

Lasalle Secondary School
Lasalle Secondary School will present Winter MADness on Monday, December 10th and Tuesday, December 11th at 7 pm in the A/B gym.  A matinée will also take place for feeder schools at 12:30 pm on December 11th. Winter MADness features Lasalle’s music ensembles and improv team. The event includes an art display and a fashion show. Tickets for one night are $5 for students/seniors and $7 for adults. Tickets for two nights are $7 for students/seniors and $10 for adults.

Lively District Secondary School
On Wednesday, November 28th, students from the Lively District Secondary School student council sang Christmas carols and handed out hot chocolate in front of Battistelli's Your Independent Grocer. The students collected $500 for the telethon.

On Tuesday, December 18th, students will canvass the Lively area, asking for donations for the school’s canned food drive. The students will be out and about from 8:45 am to 9:45 am. A competition for cans is also taking place in homerooms throughout December. All donations will be given to the Walden Food Bank.

Two student-produced plays about good will and human understanding will be presented on Wednesday, December 19th at 11:55 am and 7 pm (tentative).  Both plays have been written by students. Rachel Delamorandiere’s play is entitled “Kicked Out”. Grant Jeffrey’s play is entitled "Threnody".

The Lively District Secondary School annual Christmas Concert will take place on Thursday, December 20th from 1:10 pm to 2:15 pm.  The concert will feature Christmas caroling, as well as Christmas themed skits by teachers and students.

Lockerby Composite School
Lockerby Composite School will present "Santa on Ice", its annual Christmas concert, on Thursday, December 13th, at 7 pm in Lockerby's auditorium. The presentation will showcase the Junior Concert Band, Senior Concert Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and special guests, the classic rock band "Stray Bullet". Tickets are $2 for students/seniors and $5 for adults, available from any band member or at the door.

Lockerby Composite School staff and students adopted 30 needy families through the Children’s Aid Society. Non-perishable food items will be collected and donated to the families. They will also receive clothing items, new and used toys, household items, and gift certificates. This four-week long program will culminate with an assembly with representatives of the Children’s Aid Society on Friday December 21st at 10 am in the main gym at Lockerby Composite School.  At 10:30 am, following the assembly, CAS volunteer drivers will pick up each family's care package and deliver them throughout the day.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School
Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School will host its annual Christmas Concert on Thursday, December 13th. The concert will feature the junior and senior concert bands as well as the junior and senior jazz bands.

Sudbury Secondary School
Sudbury Secondary School will present A Christmas Carol, The Musical, showcasing arts students. Public performances will take place on Friday, December 14th at 7:30 pm; Saturday, December 15th at 7:30 pm; Sunday, December 16th at 2 pm; Tuesday, December 18th at 7:30 pm; and Wednesday, December 19th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and $8 for children 10 and under. Tickets are available at Sudbury Secondary School (main office), Black Cat Too and Jett Landry Music.

Students are collecting items for its Adopt-a-Family initiative throughout December.  A presentation will be made to NAPOS on Friday, December 21st. A staff/student basketball game will take place on Wednesday, December 19th to raise funds for the Sudbury Secondary School food bank.
