Lorraine Geraghty took these photos of a fire in Copper Cliff from the window of her house at about 3 am Monday.
A 10-car garage behind an apartment building on Serpentine St. was gutted by the fire. A hydro pole with transformers was also burned in the blaze.
“There was damage to the cars too. I saw them out on the street. They were pretty black looking,” she said. “I don't know if any of them exploded or anything. I think they got them out before they did.”
Geraghty said she and her neighbours had no power or phone lines for some time on Monday morning as crews worked in the area.
“I was scared because we have our fence between the apartment building on Serpentine. I said 'If the fence takes off, it (the fire) is going to be right in our garage',” she said.
There have been a number of arsons in the Copper Cliff area in the past few years.
Platoon Chief Paddy Gorman said the fire department isn't sure right now if the fire is suspicious.
Nobody was injured in the fire.
The Ontario Fire Marshal and the Greater Sudbury Police Service are investigating.
There is extensive damage to the garage and some of the cars that were in it, but he doesn't have a total yet. It took firefighters about four hours to put out the blaze.
