Firefighters honoured

A total of 19 members of the Greater Sudbury Fire Services received their Long Service Medal during an investiture ceremony hosted by the Office of the Fire Marshal Thursday evening at the Howard Johnson Hotel.

A total of 19 members of the Greater Sudbury Fire Services received their Long Service Medal during an investiture ceremony hosted by the Office of the Fire Marshal Thursday evening at the Howard Johnson Hotel.

Long Service Medals are awarded by the Ontario Ministry of Public Safety and Security to firefighters who have completed at least 25 years of career or volunteer fire service.

?These firefighters have dedicated a quarter century to protecting lives and property in the City of Greater Sudbury,? said Mayor Jim Gordon. ?It takes special people to enter the first service and it takes determination and dedication to persevere.

?They deserve our thanks and they deserve these provincial honours.?

Those honoured include David Barrett, William Boivon, Gerald Cummings, Pat Desjardins, Norman Gaudette, Patrick Gorman, Alfred Grottoli, Ron Hache, George Hanmore, Marc Leduc, Raymond Marlok, Ivan Moore, Herve Poulin, Marcel Poulin, Wayne Ropp, Paul Roy, Grant Stevenson, Antonio Thibeault and Peter Zieleniewski.
