Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Greater Sudbury and vicinity, effective 3:38 p.m. on May 25.

The first heat event of the season is expected to hit the area Tuesday and Wednesday with daytime temperatures near 30 for both days. Humidex values in the mid to upper 30s are also expected.

The heat should taper off by Thursday with the arrival of some cooler air and rain showers.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to [email protected] or tweet reports using #ONStorm.
