On Nov. 14 the Greater Sudbury Police Service participated in the festive season launch of Safe Ride Home Sudbury and conducted Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot-checks at three locations.
GSPS officers from the Traffic Management Unit, Patrol Operations and Rural Unit were accompanied by members of the OPP to conduct spot-checks throughout Greater Sudbury.
Officers attended Lorne Street at Edna, Frood Road at Burton Avenue and Falconbridge Road at Josephine Street.
The first spot-check began at 4:15 p.m. and by 4:45 p.m. the first arrest of the 2018 festive RIDE program was made at the Lorne Street location.
A 53-year old man was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Over 80 mgs.

"The efforts of all those involved including the organizers, sponsors and volunteers demonstrates a Shared Commitment to Community Safety and Well-being with a goal of eliminating impaired driving on our roadways. Police checked a total of 1,150 vehicles on Nov. 14 and issued provincial offence notices under the Highway Traffic Act.
Two Criminal Code charges were laid against the 53-year-old man who was caught for driving while impaired.
Police also issued nine warnings for equipment and document related infractions.
