Fishing changes come into effect Jan. 1

Several changes to Ontario’s fishing regulations come into effect Jan.1. The changes are part of the ministry’s new ecological framework for recreational fisheries management.

Several changes to Ontario’s fishing regulations come into effect Jan.1. The changes are part of the ministry’s new ecological framework for recreational fisheries management.

The total number of Fisheries Management Zones (formerly Fishing Divisions) has been reduced to 20 across Ontario.  Sudbury District is included in Fisheries Management Zone 10.

Walleye and sauger open season will run from Jan. 1 to March 31 and the third Saturday in May to Dec. 31. Largemouth and smallmouth bass (or any combination) season will open on the fourth Saturday in June and run until Nov. 10.
