Fitness series at Kivi Park gets people moving

Northern Cancer Foundation hosts its first event from the MOVE – The Kivi Park Fitness Series

The snow and extreme cold were no barriers for the many local families that came out to move for The Kivi Park Fitness Series.

Northern Cancer Foundation (NCF) has partnered up with Kivi Park to host a series of outdoor events that will ensure our community remains active throughout the winter.

“We are trying to promote activity, because one of the things to improving your chances of not getting cancer is to lead an active lifestyle, and exercising and doing things outside is part of that,” Tannys Laughren, executive director of Northern Cancer Foundation, said, “And also we wanted to get the entire family involved, so parents don’t have to leave their kids home and the kids can be active, too.”

Today's event, the Cross Out Cancer Ski Loppet, offered three different races, a one-km race for kids, a five-km race and a 15-km race with all routes taking place on the groomed trails of Kivi Park.

The next event in line for the fitness series is a snowshoe run on  March 4 with other events like cancer centre walk/run/bike for hope, a mud run, stand-up paddleboard race and mountain bike race to close the series.
