A cold front has brought an end to a spell of remarkably warm weather more typical of late summer, said Environment Canada in its Nov. 12 weather summary.

The warm spell was noteworthy for its duration, with many stations reporting daytime highs in the upper teens or low 20s for a solid week, said Environment Canada. In addition, many of the daily record temperatures shattered previous records by several degrees, with a number of stations reporting the warmest November day they had ever experienced.

These include Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury,  Timmins, Kapuskasing, Chapleau, Petawawa and Wiarton.

Greater Sudbury set record temperatures for five consecutive days.

The temperature reached 17.2 C on Saturday, with the previous record of 16.6 C set in 2016.

Sunday was even warmer, with temperatures reaching 18.3 C. The previous record of 16.1 C was set 45 years ago in 1975.

Monday saw the mercury rise even further, with a new record of 20.1 C, beating the previous record of 17.5 C set in 1999. This is also a record for the month of November, as the previous November record for the warmest day was 19.4 C set on Nov. 5, 2015.

The heat continued on Tuesday, with a new record of 18.8 C knocking down the previous record of 14.4 C set in 1975.

While Wednesday, Nov. 11 was not quite as warm as preceding days, it still proved warm enough to break some additional records, said Environment Canada.

In Sudbury, the temperature reached 14.5 C, breaking the previous record of 14.2 C set in 2012. Records began in 1954.

Temperatures moving forward are expected to be much closer to the seasonal norm.

Today’s high is 7 C, but with the windchill, it will be closer to -6 C. It will become cloudy late this evening with a 30-per-cent chance of showers and a low of 2 C.

On Friday, the high is expected to be 5 C in the morning and falling to 2 C in the afternoon. There will be a chance of flurries or rain in the evening with a low of -6 C.
