Five people displaced in Chelmsford apartment building fire

Greater Sudbury Fire Services says blaze started on the back deck of 4-unit building

Five people have been displaced from their homes after a fire at an apartment building on Cote Avenue in Chelmsford this afternoon.

All of the occupants got out safe, and the fire department is working with the tenants to make sure they have a place to stay.

Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell said the fire, which was called in at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, started on the back deck of the four-unit building. The cause is under investigation, he said.

“There is significant smoke and fire damage to at least two of the units,” said Oshell, who estimated damage costs at between $50,000 and $100,000. “We were able to get it under control and contained to that area.”
