Updated: Hwy. 144 reopened once again early Monday morning

Smoke from a forest fire near Gogama closed the highway off and on over the weekend

Highway 144 between Highway 560 and Highway 661 has once again reopened, the OPP announced via Twitter at 6:23 a.m. Monday.

Updated 5:40 p.m. 

Changing winds have carried the smoke from Timmins 2 back over Hwy 144, producing low visibility on the roadway.

As a result, Hwy 144 has been closed once again between Hwy 560 and Hwy 661.

OPP Communications for the North East Region confirm that Hwy 144 has reopened.

The Ontario Provincial Police for the Northeast Region have announced through Twitter, that a section of Hwy 144 between Hwy 560 and Hwy 661 in the area of Gogama, has been closed due to a forest fire and poor visibility.

Police have not provided as an estimate as to when the roadway will re-open.
