Three people were evacuated from a house fire on Portage Avenue on May 6, said Greater Sudbury Fire Services.
Firefighters responded to the call at 12:40 p.m. To a fire at a single family dwelling. The fire caused about $50,000 worth of damage, with fire and smoke damage listed as moderate.
A total of 13 firefighters from two stations helped fight the fire.
In its safety message, Greater Sudbury Fire Services said every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.
“Test your smoke alarms once a month and replace the batteries every year. Smoke alarms can increase your chances of surviving a fire by up to 50 per cent,” said a news release.
