Representatives with Toronto's SickKids Hospital will be in Sudbury on Wednesday, June 4, to pre-screen people who have a family history of type 1 diabetes.

A simple blood test can detect increased risk for type 1 diabetes up to 10 years before symptoms appear.

The free tests will be administered at Health Sciences North's diabetes care service centre.

To make an appointment you must have a relative with type 1 diabetes.

The tests are available for people between the ages of one and 45 if they have direct relatives with type 1 diabetes.

If a family member is a second-degree relative, such as a cousin, aunt or uncle, the test is available for people between the ages of one and 20.

To book an appointment call 1-866-699-1899.
