Greater Sudbury and vicinity is under a freezing rain warning.

“Freezing rain developing early this evening,” said the warning, issued by Environment Canada at around 5 a.m. Friday morning.

“Snow is expected to begin this morning, becoming mixed with ice pellets this afternoon. Five to 10 cm of snow and ice pellets is expected before changing to freezing rain early this evening.

“The freezing rain will change to rain Saturday morning as temperatures rise above the freezing mark.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.

“Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.”
