The freezing rain warning issued by Environment Canada for Greater Sudbury and the surrounding area has been lifted.

Original Story

The special weather statement issued by Environment Canada this past Friday has been upgraded to a freezing rain warning, following reports of a weekend-long storm expected to reach Greater Sudbury this evening.

Snow and/or ice pellets in the forecast for Saturday evening, quickly changing to freezing rain for the remainder of the night and into Sunday morning.

A few hours of rain are expected for Sunday, changing back to snow late Sunday afternoon or evening.

Strong winds up to 70 km/h will develop Sunday evening, blowing snow throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning.

Sudburians are advised to take extra caution when navigating surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots as they are likely to become icy and slippery.

Environment Canada warns that visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to zero, making travel dangerous.

Power outages may occur as a result of the storm.
