Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for Greater Sudbury and area at around 5:45 p.m. Dec. 27.

It also appears as though the significant winter storm that was forecast to hit this evening will miss us, as Environment Canada ended the special weather statement just before 6 p.m. Thursday evening.

Freezing rain is expected overnight tonight. Snow or snow mixed with ice pellets will begin this evening and change to freezing rain overnight or early Friday morning during the transition from snow to rain.

Travel may be impacted or become hazardous at times.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
