Sudbury Regional Hospital?s francophone advisory committee (FAC) met last week for the first time. Its goal is to make recommendations on the provision of French language services and provide a forum for open communication.

FAC is part of an overall hospital committee restructuring recommended by the operational review.

?This is an exciting opportunity to encourage active participation to help improve health care services for the francophone community,? said Monique Lapalme, regional co-ordinator, French Language Services.

?It?s important that we work together to ensure that the needs of the francophone community are reflected in our planning for French language services.?

Since the amalgamation of the three former hospitals in 1997, the hospital has been committed to providing quality patient services in both official languages. The hospital obtained partial designation under the French Language Services Act in 2001 and continues to work to improve its French services throughout the hospital system.
